In difficult conditions both sides found it hard to string any passes together both relying on the long ball. We had to wait until the 10th minute for the first chance on goal. This fell to Coleshill when another long ball was sent over the Loughborough defence from right back Leon Weller to find Simeon Cobourne but he failed to get the ball under control and the defender was able to clear. It was a scrappy game but Coleshill started to get on top, and the pressure paid dividends on 20 minutes when a quick free kick on the half way line found Cobourne on the left side of the penalty area. He jinked past the defender and crossed the ball for Shane Benjamin to superbly control the ball with his back to goal, he turned quickly and his shot rifled into the corner of the net giving the keeper no chance. It was all Coleshill now with the Loughborough keeper making some fine saves. The next real chance came on 35 minutes when Cobourne was put through but he shot well over the bar from 20 yards out.
Half time 1-0
The second half started much the same as the first. We waited until the 55th minute for the next chance to come. A shot by Benjamin was well parried by Halstead in the Loughborough goal but the follow up shot from Danny Tymon sailed over the bar from 18 yards out. Coleshill were now dominating but could not find a way past the Loughborough keeper. Benjamin was put clear but again the shot went wide. On 61 minutes Matt Brown replaced Cobourne and he nearly scored with his first touch as he sent a header just over the bar from a corner. Coleshill continued to have the upper hand but several chances were missed, first by Tom Weale and then Benjamin put Dean Rathbone through one on one with the keeper but again Halstead came out on top pushing the shot round the post for a corner. The break-through came on 78 minutes when intricate play between Benjamin and Brown put Rathbone clear on goal to score, 2-0. This was followed by the first real chance Loughborough had created but the centre forward's shot went wide. With the snow now falling heavily Coleshill lost possession on their left which saw the Loughborough winger race clear and cross the ball dangerously into the six yard box but the centre forward put the ball wide. Rathbone was then subbed for Ricky Cutting to make his debut on 85 minutes. The last real action came a minute later when Weale played a great through ball for Benjamin to be one on one with the keeper but again Halstead came out on top with two good saves to deny Benjamin a tap in. The last fifteen minutes were palyed in dreadful conditions and it is a credit to both sides that they adapted and played the game in the right spirit.
