Coleshill players take a break but boss Casey remains busy
Writes the Coleshill Herald
PAUL Casey has handed his players a well-deserved rest this week – but that hasn't stopped the Coleshill Town boss being busy in the transfer market.
Coleshill have enjoyed an excellent spell of form with four wins and a draw in their last five, including a 1-1 stalemate against fellow high-fliers Kirby on Saturday.
So, after a busy festive period, Casey has given his squad time out this week, ahead of the trip to Continental Star on Saturday.
The break has also enabled him to assess his squad, bolstering Coleshill – on an unbeaten five-game run – with the capture of Sutton Coldfield Town striker Mykel Beckley.
Anthony Bevas is also set to arrive from Bedworth.
"It's been a tough few weeks for us in terms of the number of games," said Casey. "We have had so much football in the last few weeks, about five matches in the last 21 days.
"So this week off couldn't have come at a better time and we won't be having the lads in for training this week.
"It gives some of the lads like Conal Powell (hamstring) and Chris Hughes (groin) the chance to rest up so we can see if they can be available for Saturday.
"Shane Benjamin also played against Kirby with a chest infection, so it will do him good to take a break.
"And we have also been able to work on a deal to bring in a new striker, Mykel Beckley.
"He's a good signing for us. He has lots of pace and offers width and he's a good finisher.
"He's a local boy too, he only lives in Castle Bromwich, so it's a perfect move for him, and he knows a few of the lads like Shane Benjamin."
Coleshill, currently fifth in the table, travel to Continental Star on Saturday.
Star, managed by Gary Smith, are 18th in the table but enjoyed an impressive 5-2 win over Stourport Swifts on Saturday. They have also scored 54 goals in 23 games so far and Casey said: "They are offensively very strong, with talented players. Their manager Gary Smith has got them playing some good football. But we are enjoying our football right now. The team spirit is brilliant here and hopefully our good form can continue."
