Coleshill Town's Casey is aiming to open up title race
Writes the Coleshill Herald
COLESHILL Town face a crucial week in their season as they prepare for massive fixtures in both the league and cup.
Paul Casey's men, currently fifth in the Midland League Premier, travel to third-placed Basford United on Saturday before hosting Rushall Olympic in the Birmingham Senior Cup on Tuesday.
They complete an epic seven days with a trip to leaders Long Eaton the following Saturday.
For Casey, the clash with Basford is an opportunity for his side to gain some revenge for a home defeat earlier in the season.
The Colemen slipped to a 2-1 defeat back in November but Casey remembers: "We didn't deserve to lose that day. Their goalkeeper, Saul Deeney, was the difference. We could quite easily have won that game convincingly if we had taken our chances.
"So if we play with the same intensity this weekend, I am sure we can get a positive result.
"I won't need to give a team talk. These are the kind of games which talk for themselves.
"We are looking forward to the challenge. Basford are a good side, we know that.
"They play good football, complete football and they have some of the best players in the league on paper.
"But we don't play on paper and, besides, we have some good players ourselves.
"We are in form. We have picked up 25 points from the last 30 and so we go into the game well prepared and full of confidence."
Casey, whose side secured a 3-0 win over Alvechurch on Tuesday night, will be without striker Ricky Cutting this weekend but has plenty of other attacking options.
And the Coleshill manager admits the next seven days promise to be huge for the side if they are to mount a late challenge.
"It's crazy but in a good way," said Casey. "If we can win the games against Basford and Long Eaton it opens it all up and suddenly we could be in a title race.
"The lads are excited and feel fresh.
"We are not under any pressure really but it's all to play for in these next few games."
