Coleshill Town were looking forward to their league match against Kidderminster FC on the night of the 19 April. The stadium is magnificent with all the best facilities available both to players, managers and supporters. The team were on a winning streak and their confidence was high after a number of consecutive wins.
The conditions were poor with heavy rain beating down and the pitch was wet and very slippery. Both teams started of tentatively but some adapted well to the conditions. Coleshill again had a small squad with two new players signed up and on the bench. Ray Clamp had returned as manager and with Dave Crowe and Ozzi Gunter encouraged the team during the first half. Both team battled well. Our defence kept on top of Kidderminster but unfortunately we couldn?t break through their defence to score a goal. Kidderminster continued to pressurise and eventually scored a well taken goal which beat a number of our defenders. The half came to an end with Kidderminster in the lead 1-0. The football wasn?t brilliant but the conditions continued to be challenging.
The second half started off very well with both teams playing some good football and were determined to either equalise or improve on the 1-0 score line. The breakthrough came about by a handball by a Kidderminster player in the penalty area which resulted in a penalty kick for Coleshill which was well taken and converted by Joe Clark. The kick was in the top right hand corner of the goal. The second half continued with Coleshill pressurising to gain the lead but unfortunately the break through came for Kidderminster and they scored their second goal half way through the second half. The last 20minutes of the game resulted in some excellent football by Coleshill with Sean the goalkeeper making some excellent saves. We certainly had some chances to equalise but just could not score the much deserved equaliser The game ended 2-1 to Kidderminster but all our lads played really well.
