MIDLAND COMBINATION PREMIER DIVISION
ALVESTON 2 v 0 COLESHILL TOWN
Coleshill went in search of back-to-back wins at lowly Alveston where the home team are going through a mini crisis and are in real danger of relegation. Town were without mid week hero Matty Devine and Lee Dempster. Carl Meah was promoted from the bench, Phil Heaton came in for his first start of the season and Alex Ryder took over as substitute. Alveston were depleted to such an extent that they fielded at least three 40 something’s and several youngsters.
Town started where they left off from Tuesday evening and should have been two up in the opening minutes. An Allan Thomas cross was met by Christian Crisp but his header went straight at the keeper and a move from inside their own box, instigated by a fine run by Carl Smith ended with a Mitchell Thompson shot, which was well saved. But on ten minutes Alveston took a shock lead completely against the run of play. A free kick was needlessly conceded on the left touchline. The ball was floated in to the near post and flicked on leaving the entire Coleshill defence flat footed. The No 4 had the simple task of nodding home with no marker within 5 yards. Alveston couldn’t believe their luck and immediately got men behind the ball at every opportunity to deny and frustrate the visitors. The remainder of the game consisted of total Coleshill dominance in every area of the pitch but the one that matters, the final third. Town created chance after chance after chance, but amazingly the home keeper was never seriously tested. Nicky Fell should have been awarded a blatant penalty for a push in the back, but the Referee was the only person in the ground who never saw it. Crisp, Bradbury, Fell, Meah, Smith, Anderson, Thompson and Thomas all had clear openings but no one was able to find the target, and with frustration growing and tempers flaring, Bradbury, Thomas and O’Brien found themselves in the book. The latter resulted in Alveston increasing their lead. In a rare break away the No9 was clearly pulled back by O’Brien who was lucky not to be shown the red card. The striker took the kick himself, finding the far corner of the net with a fine strike. Coleshill continued to huff and puff but this was not their day and wouldn’t have scored if they played till midnight.
Team;- Danny Moseley, Lee O’Brien, Allan Thomas, Simon Bradbury, Phil Heaton, Carl Smith, Christian Crisp, Nicky Fell (Alex Ryder), Neil Anderson, Carl Meah, Mitchell Thompson. Subs not used Tony Gormley.
M.O.M. Phil Heaton.
