Match Report
Tuesday 19th October 2004
Midland Combination Premier Division
Coleshill Town 0 v 2 Dudley Sports

A third consecutive home game for Coleshill Town, this fixture was originally due to be played at Dudley but due to problems with their floodlights it was moved to Packington Lane. The club were in high spirits following successive victories against Coventry Sphinx and Leamington and a similar result was expected against lowly Dudley Sports.

The team were put under great pressure from as early as the 4th minute when James Lloyd was dismissed from the field of play following a bad tackle on an opponent. It took the Greens several minutes to adjust their game but as in the previous game when playing one short, Mick Beadle continued to leave two strikers up front. The first half was virtually one way traffic as Dudley were penned back in their own half by the Ten of Coleshill. The home team had the ball in the net but an offside flag denied what would have been just reward for a team determined not to let the sending off affect them.

The second half continued in the same vein but a goalkeeping error allowed the visitors to steal the lead in the 57th minute. There was still time for Coleshill to continue in their attacking manner and Carter, Davies and Howard all went close. On one occassion the ball crashed off the underside of the crossbar into the arms of Dudley's keeper. The body blow came in the 70th minute when sloppy defensive play resulted in the visitors being awarded a penalty from which they made no mistake. Coleshill through more players forward in an attempt to salvage something from the game but the effect of playing for 86 minutes one short, eventually told and three points were lost.

At the start of this three match sequence, the team would have settled for six points, but six out of six gave hope of a clean sweep. The long trip to Pershore on Saturday is an opportunity to get back to winning ways before another mid week encounter with Bolehall Swifts in the Midweek Floodlit Challenge Cup.

Team: Jones(C), Jones (K), Woodburn, Lloyd, Wilkes, Wagstaff, Howard, Smith, Davies, Carter, Thompson. Subs not used: Dempster, Faulconbridge, Hill.

Attendance- not as many as last Saturday!!
