MATCH REPORT
After two defeats, Long Eaton in the FA Cup and Ilkeston in the League, it was important that Coleshill bounced back otherwise their fine start to the season, four straight wins, wouldn't look as impressive! This was Coleshill's first ever game against Histon, although they had visited the ground previously as Cambridge City also play there.
Captain Taylor Carter-Byrne was still missing due to a suspension, but two key players returned to the starting line up, Kai Tongue and George Washbourne, after returning from injury and holidays.
It was a fine day for football on a nice surface in an impressive stadium. The referee was female which is possibly a first at this level for Coleshill.
Coleshill were in the ascendancy from the off with four corners in the first few minutes. The home side saw the first sight of goal but Ballester fired wide. Coleshill had missed Kai Tongue's pace which scares most defences and on eight minutes the striker found himself clear on a one on one with the keeper but home stopper Roach did well to thwart Tongue and Amarvir Sandhu shot the follow up over the bar. Chizari pinched the ball in midfield and fed Rolph but his shot was brilliantly tipped round the post by Town keeper Paul Hathaway. On 12 minutes Town were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box, the defender lucky to just get only a yellow card with Amarvir Sandhu clear on goal. Josh Mansell took the kick which was floated into the box and when a Town player went down in the box the referee pointed to the spot. Kai Tongue took the spot kick, converting to give Coleshill an early lead that their play had deserved. The home side started to put some good moves together and putting the Town defence under pressure with the yellow card count slowly increasing. From a Mair free kick Rolph headed wide but it was Coleshill who came closest to scoring again when Collison missed his clearance and Amarvir Sandhu blasted a great chance wide. A great cross from Mair only just failed to connect with the onrushing Rolph but at the break it was just the one goal that separated the sides.
Histon started the second half brightly as Lawal, driving at the visitors defence, gained a free kick in a dangerous position. Garcia showed some skills pulling the ball out of the air but shot wide. Coleshill hit back with two efforts from full back Josh Mansell, each one getting closer to goal. A Wilkinson free kick was headed just wide by Key and Rolph shot wide in an end to end game at this point. On a break away Amarvir Sandhu had a great chance but his effort was deflected behind by Garcia. Coleshill were just starting to get on top and Amarvir Sandhu was once again denied a goal as the keeper prevented him from slotting the ball home. On 72 minutes a great strike by Josh Willis came close but Coleshill finally increased their lead in the 80th minute with a second for Kai Tongue as a cross found him at the far post. That opened the floodgates and just three minutes later Gio Dainty found himself in a one on one situation with the keeper with the versatile midfielder coming out on top to make it 3-0. With the points in the bag and in time added on, a fine move across the pitch ended up with a shot from Kieran Donnelly being spilled by the keeper and Gio Dainty was on hand to finish in fine style to make it 4-0. An all round fine day with a fine performance, a welcome three points and up to 4th in the table.
Coleshill are quickly back in action with a trip to Belper on Tuesday evening.
