The Non League Paper Wrote
The two sides have met four times over the past three seasons with Coleshill not coming on top...until now! A quiet opening and even game was brought to life just before the break when Sam Moore, with his back to goal, turned and sent a peach of a left foot shot over the keeper and in. The home side increased their lead in the 53rd minute thanks to Moore who slotted the ball past the advancing keeper after a fine pass from Josh Willis. Coleshill were cruising but two minutes later the visitors were back in it through a Spencer Tinkler header. Kieran Donnelly extended Coleshill’s lead in the 68th minute before Djeson Olongo-Ekila added a fourth late on.
Star Man: Sam Moore.

MATCH REPORT

Coleshill and Yaxley have played each other four times with the Colemen failing to win any of them. Two 1-1 draws at Pack Meadow was the best they could do with both goals scored by Paul Hathaway from the penalty spot. But Coleshill have started the season well and Yaxley have struggled with seven points from their opening seven games. Was this the time to finally record a win?

Coleshill were still depleted with regulars Taylor Byrne, Niall Rowe and Gio Dainty all missing from the starting line up but were in confident form following a superb win away at Belper on Tuesday.

The game started slowly and not very entertaining as Coleshill seemed to still be in the big boot system that was prevalent at Belper but once they got the ball down and played they were the better side. Early chances came with Kai Tongue heading a Fraser Doyle cross wide for Coleshill and a Cotton goalbound shot was deflected behind for a corner by Shay Palmer. But on the whole there was very little goalmouth incidents. As the half wore on Coleshill got on top and started to play some neat and tidy football. Just before the break a flowing move came to Sam Moore just outside the box with his back to goal. The striker cleverly turned his marker and sent a cracking left foot shot over the diving Butcher in the visitors goal and into the net.
Half time Coleshill 1-0 Yaxley

Coleshill started the second half well and increased their lead on 53 minutes when Josh Willis picked up the ball in midfield, slotted a defence splitting pass for Sam Moore who slipped the ball under the keeper for his and Coleshill’s second. At this stage it looked like Coleshill would cruise to victory but within two minutes Yaxley were back in the game. A free kick was floated into the box and Spencer Tinkler sent a header back across goal and out of reach of the diving Paul Hathaway. Yaxley has their best spell at this point but it was still Coleshill who were making the chances. Kieran Donnelly crosses for Sam Moore but his near post flick was cleared off the line, Kai Tongue’s pace got him clear of the defence but Butcher saved his effort with his feet. Sam Moore has a double effort as his first shot was blocked and his second was punched away by Butcher. In reply Waumsley had a shot that Hathaway had to save and push away but Coleshill finally made their superiority count and the points safe with the third goal. On 68 minutes Amarvir Sandu worked his way along the 18 yard box and found Kieran Donnelly with time and space on the edge of the box to pick his spot into the corner of the net. Yaxley almost pulled a goal back when Cotton shot looked to be going in but Hathaway pushed the ball into the post and away for a corner. Coleshill pushed for a fourth and it finally came in the last few minutes. Kai Tongue surged forward and crossed for the running Djeson Olongo-Ekila who sent the ball over the keeper and into the net with a diving header.
All in all a good afternoon, a win over Yaxley at last and just one point off top spot in the table.
It’s been a hectic few weeks but Coleshill have a midweek off but have a very tough game on Saturday at home to Chasetown.
