CASTLE BROMWICH NEWS WROTE
Half-Way, But Inconsistent

The inconsistencies of Coleshill Town continued over the Christmas holiday. Their steady improvement which has given them a respectable half-way placing in the First Division of the Midland Combination was marked by a fine 3-1 away victory over Mile Oak Rovers, on Boxing Day, but last Saturday in the return fixture at Pack Meadow went down 2-1. Mile Oak fought back after trailing to a 10th minute goal from Paul Montague, who converted an expertly flighted free kick from Johnny Allen. In the 15th minute goalkeeper Wright failed to collect a cross and Shilton was on hand to equalise. Heavy pressure by Mile Oak was rewarded in the 57th minute, with Hughes blasting home a goal from fully 20 yards.

TAMWORTH HERALD WROTE
SWEET REVENGE FOR MILE OAK

Mile Oak gained quick revenge for their Boxing Day defeat by Coleshill, when they gained a creditable 2-1 victory at Packington Lane. The home side, who like the Oak, seem to save their best performances for when they are away from home, were never really a match for a side that bounced back to form after two disappointing defeats. Oak opened brightly and put the home defence under pressure for the first ten minutes. Against the run of play however, Coleshill went ahead, Ian Gilmour conceded a free kick just inside the Oak half. Johnny Allen hit a long ball into the Oak penalty area where Montgomery (Montague) rose above Phil Scandrett to head the ball past Wyshnia. Undeterred, Oak carried on the assault on the Coleshill goal and were rewarded after 17 minutes with a goal from Alan Shilton. Kevin Albrighton went on a right wing run and his cross was back-headed by Trevor Hubbard past the groping hands of keeper Wright for the oak striker to run the ball into the empty net. Alan Shilton was causing havoc with some penetrating runs into the Coleshill box and he was unlucky on several occasions. Oak had the ball in the net when Trevor Hubbard headed past the Coleshill keeper who was adjudged to have been impeded by Alan Shilton and the goal was disallowed. But there was nothing wrong with the winning goal 15 minutes into the half with a superb move involving four players. The ball was taken into the Coleshill half by Rudge, who passed inside to Gilmour, on to Shilton, who controlled it before laying a good ball inside to Roger Hughes who took the ball wide of a Coleshill defender before scoring with a crisp right foot shot past Wright's left hand. The nearest Coleshill came to scoring was five minutes from time when a speculative overhead kick by Conway forced David Wyshnia into pushing the ball over the bar for a corner. ANOTHER PARAGRAPH BUT CAN'T READ IT?
