COLESHILL CHRONICLE WROTE
Coleshill March Into Semi Finals

Coleshill town eased their way into the semi-finals of the Coleshill Charity Cup when they crashed in six goals against Haunchwood Institute on Saturday. After some early Coleshill raids, Haunchwood forward Gandy had the ball in the nut but the score was ruled out for offside. It took Coleshill only ten minutes to open their account. Deeming sent Sanders clear and his shot cannoned into the net off right back Wilson. Coleshill continued to pile on the pressure and always looked the more dangerous side. They increased their lead in the 20th minute. Sanders was sent through on the right and as the winger moved inside to face Norman, he was brought down and Phelps made sure of the penalty. Coleshill's goal had a narrow escape immediately after when Terry Large sent in a shot that looked a winner but Geof Statham managed to prevent danger by kicking clear with a ball that struck the far post. Coleshill were soon back however in their attacking role and Phelps, working well along with Curtis, provided a fine chance for Sanders who drove to high. Phelps was certainly proving Town's most industrious player and he played over a perfect centre for Sanders who was only inches off target with a glancing header. The second half opened with Seddon powering his way through to win a corner from which Sanders cross was headed just past the post by Phelps. Hanlon came on the scene to take a swift run which ended with a ground shot that was well saved by Norman. Large stepped up for Haunchwood to drive in a frre kick that Garnell saved low down but the 65th minute saw Coleshill extend their lead when Tim Rawlings put Sanders right on the door step to score from close range. Three minutes later Coleshill were bounding forward into the the semi final when a perfectly placed corner kick by Hanlon saw Phelps literally crash the ball into the net with a brilliant header. Haunchwood got a consolation goal in the 70th minute when Large was allowed to pass through unchallenged to leave Garnell with no chance of saving. Two more goals by Coleshill arriving in the last two minutes sealed Haunchwood's fate, a Hanlon corner was prodded home by Sanders while in the last minute Phelps completed his "hat-trick" when heading home a Clive Lyons cross. Sixteen year old Phillips had a fine game and appears destined for a bright future.
