Coleshill Fight Back To Earn Good Victory
Goals from Back, Curtis, and substitute Hanlon, secured victory for Coleshill, in a Midland Combination Division Two encounter, with Malvern Town Reserves at the Memorial Park on Saturday. Coleshill’s youngsters O’Riordan, Masters and Garbett, all gave useful displays and supplied a refreshing zest to the forward line. Coleshill began well, but the game settled into a midfield battle, Malvern took the lead after 28 minutes, following neat play on the left flank by Wrenn, who centred for Handley to run in on the blind side of Coleshill’s defence and head low into the net. As Coleshill strove to get back into the game, Seddon had a goal bound shot saved on the line, but then the equaliser was scored. Curtis, Masters and Phelps combined well to set up a chance for Back, whose 20 yard shot left the Malvern keeper helpless. Coleshill gained control and O’Riordan saw a shot rebound off Baugh’s legs. Malvern had another escape just before the interval when a Curtis centre deceived everyone and Pratt was forced to concede a corner. Teenager Garbett paved the way for Coleshill’s second goal, winning a corner on the left, his well-flighted cross was hit home by Curtis. At this point Coleshill substituted Hanlon for the injured Seddon and he soon made his presence felt with two good centres and a powerful drive, which flashed past the upright. At the other end keeper Bradley saved well, when he finger-tipped a great shot by Vale over the cross-bar. Coleshill surged forward and put the result beyond doubt when a great pass out of defence from Statham found Hanlon, who calmly beat two defenders, before slotting the ball home. Coleshill almost scored again a minute later, when Curtis’s corner was headed past Baugh, only for Wardroper to clear off the line.
