Coleshill Revival Continues
Allcock Paves Way To Victory Over Sutton
Coleshill completed a fine "double" over second placed Sutton Town, to extend their unbeaten run to seven matches and at the same time prove they are now a force to be reckoned with in the Midland Combination First Division. Sutton, who in mid-week had drawn with Southern League side Redditch, were brought down to earth by a hard working, enthusiastic Coleshill team, well served by Phelps, Hanlon and Holder in midfield and Johnny Allcock up front. It was Allcock who scored the first goal on the stroke of half-time and he also made the second, netted by Mick Patrick six minutes from the end. For the first quarter Coleshill struggled and Sutton could so easily have sewn up the game. Alan Dulleston saved Coleshill in this period stopping a shot from Speake with his legs, diving full length to hold a shot from Smith and palming a great header from Howkins over the bar. Howkins saw a shot hit the post and the same player had a goal disallowed. Coleshill survived and thrillingly settled down to gain the initiative with Phelps heading over and Ray Nabbs bringing the best out of home keeper Williams with a cracking shot 20 yards shot.Shortly afterwards Nabbs fired inches over the bar. Sutton's defence began to look decidedly suspect and their back four were guilty of making mistakes. Allcock took full afvantage in the 45th minute when he intercepted a wretched pass from Sutton's Bott to race through and shoot Coleshill in front. The second half belonged to Coleshill although Sutton still had scoring chances, Smith, Bourton and Aston "muffed" clear cut openings and Coleshill sealed the issue in the 84th minute when Allcock's fierce cross-shot was pushed out by Williams, but straight to Nabbs, who headed down for Patrick to slam the ball home. This Saturday Coleshill are at Home to Bridgnorth Town.
