Best Of Season From Coleshill
Coleshill have done it again. Producing some of their best football of the season they maintained their sequance of beating top of the table teams in a hard fought encounter writes Geoff Cupples. Malvern, with Dudley Tyler, the former Hereford and West Ham star in their line up were often impressive, but Coleshill matched their opponents and Johnny Allcock shot inches wide in the opening stages and then brought a fine save from keeper Hingley. From a free kick, awarded for a foul on Allcock, a great shot from Ray Nabbs shaved the post and in the 26th minute Nabbs won a corner leading to Eddie Hanlon slamming the homesters in front. Cooksey was in action for Coleshill saving a powerful drive from Hadley and shortly afterwards Stallard headed wide, followed by a lob, which Cooksey caught under the bar. Within nine minutes of the second half Coleshill increased their lead when Barrie Canning broke quickly down the right and crossed low to the near post for Allcock to force the ball over the line. Tyler nipped in to reduce the deficit for Malvern in the 61st minute and from then on the visitors threw everything into attack. Cooksey made two brilliant saves from Tyler and Stafford and Coleshill defended brilliantly to ensure another fine victory. Coleshill now look certain to finish the season in the top half of the Midland Combination First Division, but this Saturday they face a tough task when they visit second placed Blakenall.
