Saturday 24th March 2007
Midland Combination Premier Division
Coleshill Town 1 v 0 Brocton FC
Scorer: Shay Morgan.

With such a good performance behind them at Sphinx on Wednesday it came as no surprise that manager Mick Beadle kept the same side. The power play against the league leaders should have been the catalyst to finish the season on a high but the game against Brocton was a huge dissappointment with the only goal coming from substitute Oluwaseyi Morgan. The bitter cold and swirling wind that seemed to come from nowhere virtually on kick off time didn't help, nor the away team's tactics of one man up front and everybody else behind the ball and finally a bumpy pitch which must be a priority to sort out in the summer.

The highlights from an instantly forgettable first half were a penalty appeal when Ben Usher went to ground in the box, a goalbound header from Dominic Reece blocked and a far post shot saved from the same player. Brocton were very well organised and did look dangerous on the break but their lonely forward could have done with some quicker support.

Brocton had the first chance of the second half but Coleshill slowly started to get on top. A Campbell cross only just eluded Ben Usher then Campbell attempted an overhead kick but the closest either side came was from a huge miss kick from Coleshill's Greg Allan. The ball fell nicely for a Brocton player but Allen made amends with a brilliant save to tip over the bar. David Brush made the visitors keeper work with a dipping volley from the D that was tipped over the bar. Beadle brought on Seyi Morgan for Ben Usher and the forward, who had been dissappointing at Meir, changed the game. Suddenly Coleshill looked lively and forced a series of corners and with 75mins on the clock Morgan finally broke the deadlock with a sharp header. Two minutes later it should have been two for Coleshill and Morgan but his shot was pushed onto the post then bar by the Brocton keeper. Brocton finally started to push out in search of an equaliser but this left gaps for Town to exploit. Carl Hind had a run and shot go wide, Campbell had a header blocked, an Allen kick was passed onto Morgan, Brush then Campbell and his shot was deflected for a corner. In the dying minutes a Dominic Reece cross was headed against the bar by Campbell who just can't buy a goal at the moment.

Not a classic but three welcome points and hopefully the start of a winning run in the last nine games of the season.

Team:- Greg Allen, Rob Hipkiss, Ian Bluck (Sam Chatwin), Ryan Gardiner, Joe Clarke, Raddi Richards (Carl Hind), Josh McPherson, Dominic Reece, David Brush, Michael Campbell, Ben Usher (Seyi Morgan). Subs not used Danny Carter, James Dance.
