Tuesday 2nd October 2007
Midland Combination Premier Division
Coleshill Town 2 v 0 Meir KA
Scorers: Danny Carter, Matty Robinson.

Coleshill opened up a five point gap at the top of the league with this win over Meir but it proved to be hard work with a goal in half enough to overcome Meir who made the difficult long trip on a Tuesday night, something Coleshill have done in reverse many times. The most pleasing part of the game was the tremendous work rate Town showed from the first minute to the last.

Manager Carl Adams continued with the same formation and picked the same starting eleven that took Coleshill to the top with the win over Pershore. A scrappy start with few goalmouth incidents came alive on 16mins when Matty Robinson got his first goal in his second spell at Coleshill. A David Brush free kick was headed into the danger area by Neil Kitching and it was Robinson who reacted first to stab the ball home from within the six yard box. Danny Carter jincked his way past a defender and his powerful shot was spilt by Ritchie Amison, the Meir keeper, but his defence helped him out and cleared. The visitors where copeing better than any other team had with the three up front and played some neat football especially from the back, marshalled by captain Adam Cartlidge, but rarely tested Chris Butler in the Town goal. Darren Johnson had a left foot saved by Butler but it was Coleshill who looked the more likely to score as Josh McPherson headed over, Kitching headed wide and then the best chance of the half was when Sam Chatwin broke up a move deep in his own half, played a 1-2 with Kitching and crossed dangerously along the six yard line that the keeper only just got to with Carter and Robinson both waiting for a tap in.

Michael Campbell replaced Kitching at the break and immediately his power play resulted in a penalty as he had his shirt tugged inside the box. Danny Carter remained calm to roll the ball into the net and send the keeper the wrong way. A great move involving Simon Volante, Robinson, Carter and ended with a Dance shot well saved by Amison, then the keeper made two fine stops as a Brush corner was nearly driven home. Campbell held the ball up and fed Brush who had a shot saved as Coleshill upped the work rate. Dance caught a defender in possession fed Carter but his first time volley was once again well saved by Man of the Match (for Meir) Amison saved yet again. Carter dribbled his way to the bye line cut back for Dance but his effort was blocked the Dance himself jincked past several players but as he shaped to shoot the keeper saved at his feet.

Job done, three more points and a clean sheet for the third consequetive game. A rest from the league follows this week end as Coleshill travel to Leek in the FA Vase but a tough trip to Highgate on the following Tuesday looms large.

Team; Chris Butler, Andy Sutherland (Rob Hipkiss), Sam Chatwin, Richard Kavanagh, Josh McPherson, James Dance, Simon Volante, David Brush, Danny Carter, Neil Kitching (Michael Campbell), Matty Robinson 9Liam Taylor). Subs not used Jake Sammons, Greg Allen.
