Midland Combination Premier Division
Coleshill Town 4 v 1 Pilkington XXX
Scorers: Michael Campbell 3, Brian Gray.
Coleshill were really struggling to field a side because of injuries and suspentions. Ben Usher came in for his first appearance (in his fourth spell at Coleshill) and Manager Carl Adams put his boots on for the first time in a Coleshill shirt. Pilkington were lying in eigth position and had come close to grabbing a point when the sides met at XXX, so a dificult game was expected. As it turned out, in form Michael Campbell gave Coleshill an early lead and something to hang onto and Town went on to play some impressive stuff although the visitors pushed them all the way.
The game was only 11mins old when Michael Campbell continued his scoring streak with a powerfully struck effort that gave the visiting keeper no chance. James Dance ran at the heart of the Pilkington defence and his shot was deflected for a corner. Dance then had a free kick that only just went over the bar. On 20mins Simon Volante won the ball in midfield and powered forward feeding Campbell who turned and shot home for 2-0. Dance and then Adams had free kicks that went over the bar as the half approached.
Within 2mins of the restart Brain Gray intercepted a clearance and confidently rounded the keeper and stroked into the net No3. Campbell nearly completed his hat trick with a powerfull run but he dragged his shot wide. Pilkington came more into the game but their shooting rarely troubled Chris Butler in the Coleshill goal. On the hour mark the visitors had their best spell and Adams cleared off the line before a quickly taken throwin came to Andrew Johnson, the league's leading scorer, who quickly got his shot away beating Butler at his near post. Coleshill were out on their feet and it was backs against the wall time but Simon Volante released Campbell who smashed his shot home for his third, Coleshill's fourth and the points secured. Johnson got away from the defence but Butler was out quick then Town's two substitute's had chances first Shay Morgan shooting from distance then debutant Danny Harris had one shot tipped over for a corner and one effort saved by the XXX keeper.
Some breathing space at the top of the league with these three vital and well earned points but with Coleshill in the FA Vase this week end Highgate could close the gap to just three points.
Team:- Chris Butler, Sam Chatwin, Carl Adams (Kristian Kelsall), Ben Usher, Liam Taylor, Simon Volante, Josh McPherson, Stuart Adamson, James Dance, Brian Gray (Daniel Harris), Michael Campbell (Shay Morgan).

Midland Combination Premier : Coleshill Town 4 Pilkington XXX 1
Admission £3; programme £1 (32 pages)
Attendance 48 (h/c)
It must be 25 years since I last visited Pack Meadow,Coleshill and they are still playing at the same level in the top division of the Mid Comb. All that may be about to change however as this 4-1 win takes them temporarily 6 points clear at the top of the table with one eye firmly fixed on elevation to the Midland Alliance. The ground is two minutes drive from Junction 4 of the M6 and is now a tidy affair with ample car parking within, cover for 200 or so with standing at the rear of 4 bench-type rows of seating and a comfortable clubhouse which contains a tea-bar dispensing hot and cold drinks and a range of hot food - the chicken slice was most welcome on a brisk but dry night. Floodlights have been added since my last visit and there are a series of minor works outstanding before promotion can be considered. On the pitch, things couldn't be going much better - this game saw striker Michael Campbell score his second hat-trick in 4 days as Pilkington were despatched with relative ease and the club now look forward to the FA Vase tie at Barwell on Saturday. It could at last be lift-off for Coleshill as their location to the east of Birmingham gives them a considerable catchment area with not a lot of competition.
Excellent programme with only 4 pages of adverts. Well worth the revisit.
