THIS WEEK 16, and 25 Years Ago

1994/95

Coleshill started the 1994/95 season in the Skol Midland Combination Premier with Bob Nimmons as manager and Roy Dolloway his assistant in their second season in charge. They were hoping to improve on a 17th place finish the season before, with 10 wins, 15 draws and 17 defeats. Pershore Town won the league. Nimmons was starting to build, on paper, a strong squad captained by local lad Neil Hughes and including Colin Cooke, Jimmy Stafford, Neil Brady. Micky Setaro, Jamie Harden, Paul Wilson, Carl Clinton GK, Tim White, Jonathan Johnson, Jason Phillips, Alan Kilfoyle and Jamie Shipway who went onto play at a higher level but finally returned to his spirital home of Coleshill Town.

Chairman was Chris Davies, President David Walker, who sponsored the team through his local business Walker Homes. Vice President was Percy Hastings, with secretary George Phillips. The team played in the colours of their sponsor, Burgundy and Cream, rather than their traditional Green and White.

Coleshill kicked off preparations with a friendly at Pack Meadow, Thursday 11th August, against an Aston Villa XI in aid of charity.

Picture from the Coleshill Herald August 19 1994. Villa won 1-0 but a crowd of nearly 600 raised £1500 which was split evenly between Coleshill's Floodlight Fund and Cancer Research for Children, Ron Atkinson's charity of choice.

Berore the season started a report in the Coleshill Herald, 19th August 1994,by Bob Ringrose read.
"The first team management at Pack Meadow remains unchanged this season - Bob Nimmons continues his partnership with Roy Dolloway managing the first team while Dean McDermott and Paul McGuire have charge of the reserves. Town's ambition to join the Alliance in a years time, given that the team does it's stuff on the field, has stepped up their fund raising for lights; the match last week with an Aston Villa XI drew a four figure gate, 50% of which goes to the floodlight fund and the rest to a charity of Ron Atkinson's choice. Ironically, although the cable treches had been partly dug at the ground in preparation for lights, the police ordered that they be filled in for the Villa game as a safety measure. Dolloway and Nimmons have largely kept the nucleus of last seasons squad: Tim White a full back from Sunday soccer, former Highgate striker Neil Brady and Tamworth midfielder Ramsey Douglas are the only additions. This season a top six finish - and preferably top two - would suit Town's ambitious look at the Alliance, with floodlights the target for next summer. Realistically, if Coleshill can shrug off the struggles and lack of consistency of recent seasons, a top six spot is certainly on the cards in a re-modelled Mid Com Premier".
