Postby Alan Beckett » Sun Mar 13, 2011 4:01 pm

Saturday 12th March 2011
Baker Joiner Midland Alliance
Coleshill Town 1 v 1 Coventry Sphinx
Scorers:
Coleshill: Richard Allen 80.
Sphnix: Luke Williams 51.
Attendance: 26

The points were shared in a rather dire yet controversial game at Pack Meadow on Saturday, as Richie Allen cancelled out Luke Williams' 50th minute strike as the latter returned to his old club.
The first half was a rather drab affair, though the hosts can claim to have had the better of the attacking play. Neil Kitching has been in hot scoring form recently, and was unlucky not to find the net with a half volley from a corner opportunity, visiting keeper Aaron Donaldson palming the ball up for a defender to head off the goal line. From the resulting set piece, Barry Fitzharris also had an opportunity blocked from a similar position, though Town never managed to build upon these chances as an organised Sphinx defence stood their ground.
The half hour that followed was an uninspiring one, but Sphinx finally managed to shake the cobwebs towards the end of the half, former Coleshill man Luke WIlliams seeing a shot comfortably held by Ian Kimberley.
Kimberley wouldn't have such luck with a Luke Williams shot from range five minutes after the break. Williams saw the goalkeeper off his line, sweeping a thirty yard effort which span up in the air off the foot of one post,as Kimberley failing to read the wickedly moving ball as it ricoched off the other post to cross the line.
Carl Adams responded with a double substitute, Michael William almost scoring from the edge of the box minutes after being introduced. On this occasion though, the ball could only fly the wrong side of Donaldson's woodwork. William would soon become part of the game's most controversial moment, as a blunder from the referee preserved the visitors' lead. A long ball from Loyiso Recci was contested between Donaldson and William outside the area. Though William won the 50-50, his cushioned header down being converted by Steven Hakner, the referee decided that William had unfairly challenged the 'keeper.
The injustice was almost forgotten on 79 minutes when Richie Allen managed to sidefoot into the top corner from Jon Powis' inswinging cross, the equalising goal fully deserved as Town had finally began to come out of their shell late in the day. A late head injury to Michael William meant that Carl Adams would fulfil a playing role in the final minutes as Coleshill completed the 90 minutes with the safety of the single point in mind, though they may still see it as two points lost with some difficult fixtures on the horizon.

Team: Ian Kimberley, Loyiso Recci, Levi Bailey, Jason Lanns, Jon Powis, Barry Fitzharris, Tom Wilmore, Richard Allen, Neil Kitching (Steve Hakner), Chris Gumery, Jason Ramsay (Michael William) (Carl Adams).
