Coleshill suffered a disappointing defeat to Coventry Sphinx which keeps their Alliance status in the balance. After two straight wins, and three clean sheets, confidence was up but in a very entertaining game the major incidents went the visitors way. Coleshill started well and in Conner Leek they had a major threat. Twice he went on runs that were only stopped by fouls and both offenders deservedly went into the book. Another surging run by Leek saw him get to the bye line and his dangerous cross was prodded goalward by the stretching James Travis, a chance that deserved better. But all that good work was for nothing as Sphinx took the lead from the penalty spot completely against the run of play. Jack Hullin got turned in the box and he pulled his opponent, a soft penalty to give away but a penalty non the less. Kyle Rhodes made no mistake from the spot kick. Sphinx then took control as Coleshill looked stunned. The visitors played some very attractive football but their second goal came with a bit of fortune. McNally floated in a cross to the far post but the ball caught on the wind, left Hathaway stranded and the ball flew into the net. 2-0 at half time and a mountain to climb!
Coleshill tried manfully to get back into the game and the task would have been aided had James Travis been awarded a clear penalty early in the second half. Coleshill's best chances' came through Conner Leek but Sphinx knew the threat and did their best to keep him quiet, he will certainly be sore this morning as he got little protection from the Referee. Chances were few and far between, the home team having the better of them but Sphinx played keep ball well and had a couple of efforts themselves.
It's so tight at the bottom, Coleshill still need a couple of wins but at least they look as if they can get the results, a bit of luck would come in handy as well!

Coleshill fail to build on good start as Sphinx take win
COLESHILL slipped to a disappointing home defeat to Sphinx on Tuesday night.
Both teams gave their all on the night, trying to play good football.
Coleshill started the brighter with Connor Leek and Scott James looking very lively up front.
However, Sphinx took the lead through a dubious penalty and the second came midway through the first half when a sliced cross looped over Paul Hathaway.
Coleshill were knocked out of their stride for the remainder of the half.
They regained their composure after the break but were unable to fight back.
They were denied a penalty that seemed a carbon copy of the Sphinx incident but the referee Jonathan Walker waved play on.
