The Badgers fight hard but go down 3-0 to a well organise and pacey Coleshill side.
When Mikel Beckley ran into the left hand channel from the centre and outpaced everyone to collect the ball, alarm bells should have rung. He turned inside and shot wide of the mark, but it was a taster of what was to come.
Charlie Jones set Brocton moving forward with a well placed pass to the right which Dan Lomas took and quickly crossed into the box. Ben Farrall hit a shot which Paul Hathaway saved well for a corner.
The corner was repelled easily enough and Beckley ran right this time to collect the long pass out. He cut in from this side and fed Dean Rathbone whose shot went over the bar.
Then came Brocton’s best chance. Lomas’ cross became a shot and he was perhaps a little unlucky, as it hit the post, to see it rebound out but Ben Farrall got to the ball first and headed back at goal, only to see his effort go over the bar. It was a miss that Brocton would quickly regret as once again Coleshill broke from deep and this time, aware of the danger of Beckley on the edge of the home 18 yard area, the Brocton defence surrounded him. The ball looked to have been smuggled away but Demitrius Smirkle had other ideas. When it came out to him he had time and composure to pick his spot from 25 yards.
The game continued to be end to end but in truth most of Brocton’s forward moves foundered on a solid defence whereas those form Coleshill, whilst many were cut out or defended well, had that mercurial threat that was Beckley. The home side simply could not cope with his pace and movement. Before half time the home side through Matt Hardiman did get through on the left flank and Hardiman’s cross found a defender stretching to put it out for a corner. Brocton were encouraged though and Farrall found Dave Berks with the goal in sight. He had to take his shot quickly and Hathaway was well placed to take it to his chest.
The second half could not have got off to a worse start for the home side. Beckley ran left, got to the long ball first, cut inside again and this time finished off himself with a fine shot across Callum Barrett for the visitors’ second.
From that moment Brocton were simply limiting the damage and, although Coleshill continued to press and to have the majority of the play, the home side did keep them largely at bay. Josh Wilson had his moments on the left but after being caught with a tackle when in the act of crossing, his threat dwindled. The introduction of Josh D Wilson and Paul McMahon did provide a threat on goal, but Coleshill were well organised in defence and nullified their efforts.
Then came the killer blow as Smirkle found space for a snap shot which crept in and sealed the victory.
