Coleshill Fight
Double-chasing Coleshill Town will face another equally as tough battle off the pitch to keep a fully-fit squad at Pack Meadow. Manager Martin Socket expects that the premier Division side will now be able to call upon their widest range of talent all season. Striker Paul Charnley is due to return after a three month lay-off in the next few weeks. Only Peter Kirkham and Dave Carmichael, out for the whole season, will not be available. But Sockett warned that his biggest battle will be to persuade the squad of 18-19 players to stick together, despite the temptations offered by other clubs. "From a managers point of view, it will be wonderful to have everyone available but the $64,000 question is whether we can keep everybody happy," said Sockett. "I just hope that if we are successful people will want to stay whether they ate in the team or not. Things are coming together." The Pack Meadow outfit progressed to the Challenge Cup Semi Finals after defeating Studley BKL 3-2 after extra time and will now entertain Bolehall Swifts or Kings Heath. Meanwhile, work continues to install new floodlights at Pack Meadow with the big switch on set for March.
COLESHILL GAZETTE WROTE
With victory against Studley BKL in a hard fought game at Packington Lane, Coleshill can now look forward to a place in the semi-final of the league Cup, and can thus concentrate on the drive for promotion from the Midland Combination Premier Division to the Midland Interlink Alliance. With Coleshill currently fifth and having had the holiday fixtures decimated by the weather, Manager Martin Sockett should have a full squad to choose from as injured players took the opportunity of a lack of activity to return to full Match fitness. So we can look forward to some exciting encounters at Packington Lane in the future. Plans for the erection of the floodlights are well in hand and the club's management committee will be moving heaven (and quite a lot of) earth, to have the units installed by the end of the season. Coleshill Town's ambitious Chairman Chris Davies announced "a series of exciting initiaves to place Coleshill Town at the centre of the community," and in conjunction with the Gazette, the club are pleased to announce the first of these. From now until the end of the season, any person under the age of 16 will be admitted to any Coleshill Town home game free of charge on the presentation of the title of GAZETTE which is printed on the front page of the paper, so cut it out, take it along and watch Coleshill Town's drive for the championship.
SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
Mountney Is Talk Of Town In Cup Drama
Coleshill Town grabbed a 3-2 extra time Challenge Cup victory over Studley BKL with two goals in two minutes. Des Seivwright got the breakthrough for Coleshill just before half time in the fourth round tie when he tapped in at the far post after Loz Cairns deflected shot fell invitingly to him. Midway through the second half Brian Powell equalised for the Bees from a corner to force extra time. Studley stung Coleshill with their first attack of the re-start and it was Powell again whose turn and chip put the visitors ahead. Justin Wiseman rescued Coleshill when he tried his luck from the penalty area to level in the 101st minute and moments later Gary Shaw set up Paul Mountney to side foot the all important winner.
