Season Review:
After a fabulous 2016-17 season, FA Vase Semi Finalists and Runners Up in the League, Chairman Paul Billing made the brave decision to sack Manager Simon Lyons and bring in Cameron Stuart, an experienced player with Coalville Town but new to management. After several seasons knocking on the door, promotion was the aim and with the coming season allowing the top two to go up due to a reorganisation of Non League Level 4, Billing believed this was the best time to achieve that aim and Stuart was the best man to do it, no pressure!
The season started well with a win in the FA Cup, Wellington, in the first game, five new players making their debut, followed by SIX straight wins in the League to go top by September. Coleshill beat Bromsgrove Sporting in the next round of the FA Cup but were beaten in the First Qualifying Round Away to Kings Lynn, no disgrace there! The Colemen were also to have fine runs in the Birmingham Senior Cup, wins over Sutton Coldfield and Boldmere St Michaels before a narrow 2-3 defeat at the hands of Stourbridge, the FA Vase, reaching the 5th round before beaten by a very good Bracknell Town, and the League Cup in which they reached the Final for the first time but the Final at the Bescot Stadium, their 58th game of a long, long season, was one game too far as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Walsall Wood.
By February Coleshill were still top of the table with just three defeats so far but it was really tight and when Coleshill lost to a single goal to Worcester, Bromsgrove took over as league leaders. However Coleshill weren't ready to give up the title and when they produced their best performance of the season and beat Sporting on their own patch 4-0, they became League Leaders once again. Shortly after Bromsgrove got their revenge and with Coleshill going four games without a win, Sporting opened up a gap which they maintained until the end of the season. The Colemen finished the season with Five straight wins to take second spot, just six points behind Bromsgrove, and confirm promotion to the Southern League, the highest standard they have ever played in their 133 year history.
