SPORTS ARGUS WROTE
With Dyer outstanding for Coleshill, they still could not break Mile Oak's defence. Good work by McGuire resulted in a long range shot going just wide. Mile Oak broke out and only a fingertip save from Collins kept the score even.

Chances Go Begging But Oak Go Top
Mile Oak marched two points clear of rivals Moor Green and Bridgnorth at the top of the Midland Combination after a fine 2-0 win over Coleshill. This was their fifth successive league victory and they are now unbeaten since the opening day of the season. Coleshill were put under immense early pressure, with the speed and skill of Colin Robinson, Roger Taylor and John Birkenhead causing all kinds of problems. Manager Bob Bott is becoming increasingly concerned about his sides finishing. On Saturday Roger Taylor wasted four good opportunities in 12 minutes to give Oak the lead but he fluffed all the chances and at the interval the game was still goalless. After 65 minutes the extent of the problem was illustrated again when Taylor, Robinson and Taylor again failed to hit the net in an absurd goalmouth melee. Eventually it was left to the defenders to show the forwards how goalscoring should be done. Roger Smith's deep free kick was met crisply on the far post by Willie Gilmour and Nail Parker slammed in his downward header. Howard Knight was the architect of Oak's second goal. Knight's pass sent Roger Taylor away down the left and when Taylor centred Robinson was on hand to slot the ball home. That killer goal gave Oak their victory but the winning margin should have been nearer 10-0 than 2-0.
