Turbines Stay Cooking On Gas

Peterborough Sports maintained their lead at the top of the table - but only after being given a tough examination of their credentials by a resolute and dangerous Coleshill Town. An Avelino Vieira drive was turned into his own net by Craig Deakin to give the hosts the lead, only for the visitors to equalise through a penalty from Reece Leek after Mitch Griffiths fouled Amavir Sandhu. The Turbines went back in front on 25 minutes with a penalty of their own when Lewis Hilliard was fouled and got up to send the keeper the wrong way. In the 64th minute Joe Smith swept home to make it 2-2 after Sports goalie Lewis Moat collided with teammates Sandu and Richard Jones but Dion Sembie-Ferris wriggled himself into some shooting room and drilled home before Mark Jones also found the net in injury time to round things off for the league leaders.

MATCH REPORT

Peterborough Sports are heading for the title with their seventh win in a row. For Coleshill it’s a third defeat in a row. On the face of it one team on the up and one team on a bit of a downer BUT Coleshill were in this game and are very disappointed not to have come away with something.

A hectic opening few minutes saw the home team take the lead in a minute, a cross turned into his own goal by Craig Deakin. Town were level on three minutes when Amarvir Sandu was brought down and the returning Reece Leek scored from the spot. Sports got their own penalty that looked really harsh when Guy Clark challenged for a header and Lewis Hilliard scored to make it 2-1.

Coleshill went for it in the second half and equalised through Joe Smith when Amarvir Sandu collided with the keeper. At this point Coleshill were on top and Jordan Nadat was taken down for what looked like a third penalty but got a free kick instead. The home side took the lead for a third time through Dion Sembie Ferris and in the dying seconds Mark Jones scored a fourth to put a very harsh look to the score line.

As in the first game Coleshill deserved something from this game with everyone playing well. A special mention for Lewis Green in his last loan game from Coventry City who played exceptionally well.

Quote from the management. “Real good performance from the lads against a very good side, deserved a point, did well to get back to 2-2 after being 1-0 and 2-1 down. Big decision at 2-2 by the ref to give a free kick to us instead of a penalty when Jordan was clean through. Gave a very good account of ourselves and deserved something from the game.”

Peterborough Sports 4 - 2 COLESHILL TOWN

Peterborough Sports maintained their lead at the top of the table, but only after been given a tough examination of their credentials by a resolute and dangerous Coleshill Town

The first half was fast flowing following a flurry of early goals. An Avelino Vieira drive was turned into his own net by full back Craig Deakin to give the hosts the lead on 2 minutes, only for the visitors to equalise just 2 minutes later through a penalty from Reece Leek after a clear foul on Amalie Sandhu by serial offender Mitch Griffiths.

It was end to end stuff, though Sports had a great chance to extend their league when a wayward pass across the visiting back 4 was seized upon by Vieira who raced clear only to be thwarted by a great save from Paul Hathaway in the Coleshill goal. The respite was short lived however, as the Turbines went back in front on 25 minutes with a penalty of their own when Hilliard was fouled on the corner of the 18 yard box as he challenged for a header and got up to also send the keeper the wrong way from the spot.

In the second half things quietened down until the 64th minute when Sports keeper Lewis Moat came out to make a routine catch from a left wing cross, only to crash into Sandhu and home defender Richard Jones - Joe Smith swept the loose ball home to restore parity. At this point it was the visitors that looked the more likely winner until Sports mustered a grandstand finish from their strike partners who had been kept quiet until the closing stages.

On 82 minutes Dion Sembie- Ferris wriggled himself some shooting room and drilled home across the keeper from the edge of the box. Mark Jones then gave the final score a bit of gloss in injury time when latching onto a Griffiths through ball, holding off a challenge and also driving home across the keeper
