It's A Double For Coleshill

Another enthusiastic performance took Coleshill away from the re-election zone in the Midland Combination First Division and brought them a convincing "double" over Paget. Alan Wykes, signed from Coventry Sporting, took the place of suspended Paul Garnell, the only change in the Coleshill team which had beaten Highgate the previous week. In the 10th minute, Colin Holder won a corner on the right and Newey slammed Coleshill in front. Seconds later only a tackle by Knight on Allcock prevented the Coleshill striker from increasing the lead. Paget went close to levelling matters in the 23rd minute, when Arnold's dropping shot fell just the wrong side of the bar, but Coleshill won most of the ball in midfield, even though they were at times caught in possession, because of over-elaboration. Within three minutes of the second half Paget equalised through Bilboe, who scrambled the ball over the line, after keeper King had been obstructed by his own defenders and was unable to reach a floating free kick from Roberts. Coleshill continued to more scoring chances and a move involving Dight and Allcock, the young Barrie Canning shot wide. A minute later, however, it was Coleshill's other starlet, 15 year old Gary Shaw who put them back in front, taking advantage of an opening created by Roy Phelps and Canning. Holder and Shaw worked well in prompting more Coleshill attacks and in the 73rd minute Chris Dight scored goal number three, hammering in a great 25 yard shot. Holder was subsituted by another newcomer Mick Patrick but the move almost proved costly for Coleshill as Paget stormed back to reduce the deficit with a Smith header. Brayley then saved Coleshill with a saving tackle on Bilboe and King dived full length to hold an effort from Arnold, but in the time added on for injuries Coleshill sealed the issue with another goal from Allcock. This Saturday Coleshill are away to Northfield.
