CASTLE BROMWICH NEWS WROTE
Town In Control

Coleshill were in devastating form and showed that they intend to finish the season in a high league position. Johnny Allen was particularly impressive and his “hat-trick” was the foundation of a convincing victory. Coleshill opened quietly, their forwards finding difficulty controlling the ball on a greasy surface. Northfield had few raids and it was apparent Town had the measure of their opponents. Pete Garnell added strength to the forward line and he combined well with Phil Dunn. It was a determined Town who took the field in the second half. Timmy Clarke collected a ball in midfield, found a gap and blazed in a superb goal from 25 yards. This was the first of three goals in five minutes which had Northfield reeling. Garnell dispatched a Hanlon corner at 56 minutes and John Allen, who had had several dips before, slotted in number four. Oscar Deeming was marshalling the defence in which Les Owen had an “off-day” and he set up a chance for Garnell to crack a shot against the post. Coleshill’s fifth was a brilliant solo effort from Allen, and Les Owen climbed well to head in a Hanlon corner after 82 minutes. It was Allen who demoralised Northfield, completing his “hat-trick” and Clive Lyons rounded off the scoring after Eddie Hanlon had hit an upright. A very sound performance from Coleshill, who took control and never looked to be in any danger.
