Coleshill Slump After Seven Match Run

After going seven games without defeat and having taken points from the Midland Combination First Division pace setters, Coleshill slumped badly at Pack Meadow on Saturday. The opening stages favoured Coleshill and in the first minute Patrick put Johnny Allcock through and his shot was turned round the post by visiting keeper Ball. Two more corners came Coleshill's way and then Allcock shot wide, after running onto a through ball by Roy Phelps. It looked odds on Coleshill racing on to another vistory, but Bridgnorth in their first attack took the lead, when Francis broke clear on the right, beat two defenders on the bye-line and crossed for Wilde to net from close range. Seconds later, Newey had to clear off the line as Bridgnorth began to attack strongly, although still had their chances. Allcock tried a over-head kick, which went wide and Ball did well to hold a 25 yard shot from Holder and another shot from Patrick. Phelps also went close with a flying header from a corner taken by Holder, but again Bridgnorth struck quickly and Banks capped a smart build up, to make it 2-0. Coleshill fell further behind in the 19th minute when Francis was tripped by Phelps and Helmsley scored with his spot kick. Nothing it seemed would go right for Coleshill as Patrick missed a clear cut opening with only Ball to beat and Hanlon headed over. Even when Ball dropped the ball the referee adjudged that Patrick challenged unfairly and near the interval Allcock was unlucky to see a shot flash inches past the post. Coleshill began the second half showing the same imetus sa they had at the start of the game with three corners giving them ample possession and goal-line clearances became the order of the day as Bridgnorth survived. In the 62nd minute Bridgnorth again scored, when from a corner King failed to hold a fierce shot from Evans. Eight minutes from the end Bridgnorth were awarded another penalty, but this time Helmsley shot tamely at King, who saved easily. This Saturday Coleshill visit Oldbury United.
