SUNDAY MERCURY WROTE
The early goal came from a corner on the right when Montague was left clear at the far post to head home. Montague nearly made it two when he shot on the run and just scraped the bar. Police nearly got one back at the start of the second half when a bad back-pass saw the ball nearly cross the line but Raybould somehow got back, and smothered the ball. Coleshill should have gone further ahead when Upton was put clear on the right, his cross to Starkey was met on the volley but the effort hit the underside of the bar and Reardon was on hand to clear. Coleshill nearly got a second when Upton shot through a crowd of players but Grimshaw cleared off the line, then the Police had a chance to equalise when a good cross by substitute Norman was dropped by the keeper but no Police forward was on hand to push the ball home.

Police Fall To Coleshill
A first half goal from Paul Montague sufficed to give Coleshill victory at Tally Ho, but the visitors can also thank the agility of young keeper Steve Raybould, who made several smart saves. In a swirling wind both sides enjoyed even exchanges and Police were first to look dangerous when good work by Scriven put Brown clear, only for Raybould to come off his line and clear the danger. Coleshill replied with Ketterick testing home keeper Clough and in the next Police raid Scriven was to the fore again, paving the way for Porch to see a hard shot cleanly held by Raybould. Colin Davies moved upfield to augment a Coleshill raid and from his accurate cross Ketterick headed inches over the bar. More pressure by Coleshill was rewarded with Montague heading in from a corner and the same player almost made it 2-0 when his first time shot scraped the crossbar. Raybould was in the thick of things at the start of the second half when in a goalmouth scramble he emerged clutching the ball from a ruck of players. Coleshill immediately countered and should have gone further ahead as Snowy Upton raced clear and Starkey met his cross on the volley, but the effort hit the underside of the bar and Reardon was on hand to clear. Attacks ebbed and flowed, but Coleshill always looked the more dangerous, although they were guilty of wasting scoring chances.
