COLESHILL TO GO WEST

Report By Jack Arkell

Coleshill Town today realised their fate in the Semi-finals of the Polymac Services League Cup, drawing Herefordshire based team Westfields. The tie will be played over two legs, meaning that Coleshill will have the unenviable task of travelling a good distance to Herefordshire on a weekday evening.
However, on the basis of form, there is reason to be pleased for Town, as Westfields currently sit in 9th place in the League table, with the other two semi-finalists Coventry Sphinx and Causeway United in 7th and 8th place respectively. However, with just 1 point separating the three teams, it is symbolic of the close nature of the cup this season.
Westfields hold an eight point cushion over Coleshill, but the last meeting between the two sides saw a stalemate, Matty Robinson earning a 1-1 draw for the visiting Greens back in October. Coleshill will be taking a run of very decent form into the game though, putting together a steady run of 3 games without a defeat including the recent 8-0 victory over Cradley Town. This goal-fest was no fluke either, Town having scored an impressive 22 goals in the last 6 games in all competitions, almost 4 a game.
As previously mentioned, the other semi-final sees Causeway United face Coventry Sphinx, the stakes being high with the final to be played at Walsall FC’s Bescott Stadium.
Although this glamorous prize is just two games away, manager Carl Adams is sure to keep his team’s minds on the League, with two tough fixtures in the next week, a tricky away game at Oadby Town who currently sit 6th in the table on Saturday the 13th of February followed by Tuesday’s fixture against Coventry Sphinx at Pack Meadow which is sure to test the resources of an injury hit team.
